Forgotten Canyon is the site of Defiance House, one of the premiere Anasazi sites in Glen Canyon. Fortunately, it is located above the full pool elevation of Lake Powell. The canyon got its name some time after 1922, when a party discovered that it had been omitted from a U.S. Geological Survey map published in that year. They promptly scrawled ΓÇ£Forgotten CanyonΓÇ¥ on the map. Defiance House shows that the canyon was hardly forgotten by the Anasazi and may in fact have been an important and relatively developed location.
Today, Defiance House is restored and one of the few ruins in the recreation area that is open to visitors. Please enjoy Defiance House by photographing and looking only. Never disturb or deface any archaeological site.
